How We Find Leaks

In order for us to locate leaks, we conduct a thorough investigation of your pipes using a variety of tools. These tests can also help us gauge the severity of an issue. The Leak Detective Specialist, Inc uses in-pipe and infrared cameras as well as smell tests to accurately identify the source of a leak for easy repair; so you don't have to go through the expense of completely replacing your pipes or tearing through floors. Don't let leaky pipes ruin your property; contact us today to find out more about our leak detection services.

Infrared Testing

Smell Tests — Smoke & Peppermint

For sewer smells or gas odors, we use a smoke test. The appearance of smoke, along with a video pipe inspection, will show us if you have cracked, split, broken pipes or if you have tree roots causing issues.  To detect drainage issues the same way, we use a peppermint/cinnamon test. The strong smell of the spice travels through the drainage system; wherever there is a strong smell there is an underlying problem.

Video, Inspections, & Pipe Tracing

We use different types of tools to help us discover the source of a leak. By pipe tracing, we can locate sewer lines and specific pipes. Then, we'll use a sewer camera to inspect your sewer line, an infrared camera to detect hot or cold spots in Sheetrock, and/or perform a video pipe inspection to get an inside look of your pipes. This also helps us determine what is causing a problem and how to fix it.  To pinpoint leakage in a water supply or drainage system, we use  acoustic electronic leak detection equipment.
